Hand Owie Disorder
umm i guess i want to talk more about my hands and what i’m doing to manage pain. if you want to read more about whats specifically wrong with my hands check the page My hands suck.
keyboards
recently i’ve been having a lot of issues with “touch typing discipline”. i feel like when i talk about touch typing i have to explain myself a bit. if i want to press Shift+A both hands must be involved. while you could press both with one hand it is anti-touch-typing to do so. and it will hurt my hands over time. i’ve specifically being trying to kill my tendency to do Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V one-handed.
modifier keys in general are a bit of a pain point for me. i’ve been playing a lot of Vintage Story and Minecraft recently. i’ve always had trouble with Ctrl and Shift which allow you to sprint and crouch in those games. i tend to have my thumb resting on Space, next on D, next on W, next on A, but my hands are too small for my smallest (“pinky”) finger to comfortably rest on Shift. this means i end up pulling muscles or hurting joints when i attempt to play these games.
specifically, these games require you to use the keyboard one handed, then require you to hit keys that are not within the grasp of one hand comfortably resting on WASD. maybe the solution is like, using the mouse side buttons? i dunno. i use the accessibility options to make these toggle instead of hold which does help a lot.
pencil-holding
oh uhh i did some pencil writing yesterday. well probably not me and probably some new unnamed headmate. but i did some writing and i did realise that it does hurt a lot lol. i think as a teen i used to write small and this hurt more than writing large but i was forced to write small by people. i think this specifically is where my “dysphraxia” is more typical.
